Veteran Nollywood actor Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known by his screen name Ogogo, has died at the age of 66. He passed away at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, 23rd August 2026, a loss that has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Fellow actor and industry elder Jide Kosoko was among the first to publicly confirm the news. In a heartfelt announcement, Kosoko not only confirmed the death but also outlined the arrangements for the late star's final rites, including the transfer of his remains to his hometown.
Burial Arrangements for Ogogo Surface
According to Kosoko, Ogogo's remains were to be conveyed to his hometown of Ilaro in Ogun State on the same day he passed. Special prayers were scheduled for the following morning, Monday, 24th August 2026, at the Pavilion in Ilaro, Ogun State, starting at 11:00 a.m.
In his announcement, Kosoko said: "With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Alhaji Taiwo Hasssan popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today, Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years. His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State today, where special prayers will take place at the pavilion Ilaro tomorrow. Date: Monday, 24th August 2026. Time: 11:00 a.m. Venue: Pavillon, Ilaro, Ogun State. We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss."
Prior to his death, there had been rumours of his passing, to which his daughter had reacted while making a clarification. The official announcement from Kosoko, however, put an end to speculation.
