The family of late Nollywood actress Tope Osoba has finally broken their silence, offering a deeply emotional account of her final hours. In a video shared by actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod, her relatives revealed that Tope, an only child whose parents had both passed away, reached out to them just before her death, asking them to come and pick her up. They also disclosed that she explicitly requested to be buried next to her late mother in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
Family Recalls Years of Silence and Sudden Reconnection
According to the relatives, they supported Tope through her cancer diagnosis in 2023, but were blindsided when she was discharged from the hospital and abruptly cut off all contact with everyone, including her grandparents. She blocked every family member without explanation, leaving them in the dark for an extended period. That silence broke only hours before her death, when she called them out of the blue.
In that final conversation, Tope made two things clear: she wanted to be collected and brought home, and she wished to be laid to rest beside her mother in Iperu Remo. The family's account directly contrasts with the version shared publicly by her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, who had claimed she died at a police station.
What the Family Says Happened on Her Final Day
In her last hours, Tope repeatedly mentioned her fiancé's name and described what she alleged was abuse she had experienced. The family stated that they were physically with her when they left the police station, and it was while travelling near Sagamu in Ogun State that she began to feel unwell. They rushed her to a private hospital, where the doctor referred them to Ogun State University Teaching Hospital (OSUTH). Tragically, she was declared dead on arrival.
When asked about the possibility of an autopsy, the family said they have no interest in pursuing one, describing her passing as a loss too painful to revisit through such a process. Their decision has sparked mixed reactions online, with many comparing their account to what the fiancé had earlier said.
Netizens React to the Family's Revelation
The video of the family's interview with Kunle Afod drew widespread reactions on social media. Ezekiel Blessing Ikubolaje wrote: "And Oluso said she kpai at the station, oma se o." Oluwapelumi Isreal commented: "What I learned from all this is that, staying away in totality from family has side effect, because when you're in trying time, only family stay longer and run the genuine race around.. that's my opinion." Kazeem Adeola Waliyat reacted: "Hnnmmmm this is deep ooo seriously."
