Tragic Fall Claims Life of Promising Journalist
A young journalist met a tragic end while capturing the beauty of a popular coastal spot in Argentina. Leticia Lembi, aged 33, lost her life on Wednesday, November 26, after falling approximately 25 metres (82 feet) from a deteriorated cliffside staircase in Barranca de Los Lobos, Mar del Plata.
The Fatal Incident
The tragedy occurred when Leticia was standing on a concrete platform and old staircase that led down to the beach. According to reports, the infrastructure had significantly deteriorated over time. She lost her balance and plunged onto the rocks below, with rescue teams confirming the impact would have been instantly fatal.
Emergency services including firefighters, paramedics, and police officers rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, Leticia was pronounced dead at the location. The recovery operation became increasingly challenging as rescue teams worked against the advancing tide to retrieve her body from the base of the cliff.
Final Hours and Career
Just hours before the tragic incident, Leticia had shared a cheerful photograph on her Instagram story from Costa&Pampa, the country's first ocean winery located about 10 miles away from the beach. She captioned the photo showing her smiling: 'Here, playing the wine woman.'
Leticia held a degree in Journalism and Social Communication from the National University of La Plata and was from Tres Arroyos, approximately 170 miles from where the incident occurred. Besides her journalism career, she worked as a digital marketer and had previously served as a correspondent for the local newspaper La Voz del Pueblo in 2020.
Prosecutor Carlos Russo attended the scene and has officially classified the incident as an accidental death, bringing closure to the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her untimely passing.
