Popular social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as Verydarkman (VDM), has ignited intense online debate with his recent controversial statements about Christianity and self-defense in Nigeria.
VDM's Bold Declaration on Christianity
The social media critic made waves across digital platforms when he directly challenged the conventional understanding of Christianity as exclusively peaceful. In a viral video published on November 20, 2025, VDM asserted that Christians have been misled about the fundamental nature of their faith.
"Christianity is not a religion of peace as you have been told all your life by these pastors," VDM declared emphatically. "Christianity is also a religion of war and of pain... you have to prepare yourself from today."
Biblical References and Security Concerns
To support his argument, VDM referenced specific biblical passages, particularly drawing from 2 Samuel 5 where David sought divine guidance before battle. He emphasized that historical accounts in the Bible include numerous instances of conflict and warfare where believers emerged victorious.
The activist connected these biblical narratives to contemporary security challenges facing Nigerian Christians. He cited recent violent incidents in Benue, Jos, and the attack on a CAC church in Eruku, Kwara State, where worshippers were forced to flee for their safety.
VDM criticized what he described as an overreliance on prayer without adequate strategic self-protection measures. He referenced a 1986 newspaper report featuring Pastor W.F. Kumuyi's call for national unity prayers, arguing that decades later, attackers now operate with sophisticated weapons requiring more than spiritual responses.
Mixed Reactions and Online Debate
The video has triggered diverse responses across social media platforms, reflecting the polarizing nature of VDM's message.
Supporters like @benybentz commented: "There is a reason why the Catholic Church has Knights," while @james188554 interpreted the message as: "this guy is trying to hint us to get Kala make them plan well and strike."
However, criticism emerged from users like @semiuolalekansikiru who countered: "Choose Jesus today and you will understand. All these are not what Jesus preaches." Another user, @hehisdani, disagreed with VDM's interpretation, stating: "I don't agree with him this time, in the aspect of him saying that Christianity is not a peaceful religion, backing it up with the old testament is not right..."
VDM repeatedly clarified that Muslims are not the enemy, describing the insecurity as primarily political with criminal elements hiding behind religious identities. "These people hide under religion... Muslims are not your enemies," he emphasized.
The controversy comes amid previous reports of VDM's arrest alongside Mr Jollof following an altercation on a flight, adding another layer to the activist's increasingly prominent and contentious public profile.
