The residents of Odogbolu in Ogun State have received a significant boost to their health and wellbeing thanks to a major medical outreach program. The initiative, which featured free surgical procedures and comprehensive care, was a highlight of the 2025 Odogbolu Heritage Festival.
Foundation Upholds Legacy of Community Support
Spearheading the effort was the Detola Abike Mogaji Memorial Foundation (DAMMF). The foundation partnered with the Elite Club of Odogbolu and the Dr. Bakare Health Foundation to deliver the vital services. Rasheed Mogaji, the widower of the late Detola Abike Mogaji, explained that the foundation exists to continue her passionate work of uplifting vulnerable people in society.
This year's program reinforced DAMMF's long-standing commitment to grassroots empowerment in Odogbolu, focusing particularly on the elderly, women, and children.
Comprehensive Care and Life-Changing Surgeries
The outreach had a profound impact, providing medical attention at various levels to more than 200 community members. The services offered included:
- General medical consultations
- Distribution of essential medications
- Dental care services
- Detailed eye examinations
- Referrals for further corrective care
The most transformative aspect was the provision of major surgical procedures at absolutely no cost to the beneficiaries. Many who received this care admitted they could never have afforded such operations on their own.
A dedicated surgical mission was led by Dr. Lateef Bakare of the Dr. Bakare Health Foundation and Dr. Adeolu Olusodo of Atayese Hospital. The successful operations they performed included the removal of breast lumps and an atrophied testis with an associated hydrocele. The medical team confirmed all patients were recovering positively.
Community Leaders Hail a Historic Outreach
The President of the Elite Club of Odogbolu, Chief Tunde Bakare, described the inclusion of surgical services as a historic step forward for the club's annual community outreach. He stated that while the club's mission has always been to improve lives, this year's program remarkably exceeded all expectations.
Chief Bakare extended gratitude to the Odogbolu Local Council, under the leadership of Dr. Tunde Diya, and all other partners for their roles in ensuring the event's success and massive impact.
In addition to the medical interventions, the program also showed kindness to the elderly population of Odogbolu by distributing food items to them. This holistic approach underscored the organizers' dedication to addressing both immediate health crises and overall welfare.
