In a significant move to champion women's holistic well-being, the women-focused fintech platform, HerVest, in partnership with NemHealth, has empowered women with vital knowledge and free screenings for breast cancer. This initiative was held in commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Two-Pronged Approach to Women's Wellness
The campaign unfolded in two key stages designed for maximum reach and impact. It commenced with a live Instagram awareness session titled “Health is Wealth: Why Women Should Prioritise Routine Checkups.” This digital forum provided accessible information on early detection methods, signs of breast cancer, and beneficial lifestyle choices.
The online engagement was followed by a tangible, free breast cancer wellness check held at the HerVest headquarters in Yaba, Lagos. Here, certified medical practitioners from NemHealth took centre stage, offering practical guidance. They educated attendees on self-examinations, clarified risk factors, and debunked common myths surrounding breast cancer, particularly those prevalent in Africa.
Comprehensive Screening and Positive Feedback
The free health screening was a resounding success, with over 50 women receiving a full suite of preventive health checks. The comprehensive package included breast examinations, blood pressure checks, BMI assessments, and blood sugar testing. Each participant also benefited from one-on-one counselling sessions where they could ask questions about symptoms, treatments, and preventive practices.
Speaking on the initiative's motivation, Solape Akinpelu, CEO of HerVest, emphasised the intrinsic link between financial and physical wellness. “At HerVest, our work is rooted in the belief that true empowerment is holistic. Financial independence is important, but it cannot be sustained without good health,” she stated. “This initiative reflects our commitment to stand with women on all fronts, from financial literacy to wellness and long-term quality of life. Working with NemHealth allowed us to give women practical tools for early detection and preventive care.”
The participants expressed profound gratitude for the event. Annabelle, one of the attendees, shared her appreciation: “The event has been seamless, and I love how people are eager to learn about breast health and early detection. I encourage every woman to go for regular checkups and stay informed.” Another participant added, “A big thank you to HerVest for this health talk and screening. We are so happy. May God bless HerVest and everyone who made this happen.”
A Commitment to Holistic Empowerment
Through this and similar programs, HerVest continues to solidify its role in championing holistic empowerment for women across Africa. The platform seamlessly combines access to finance with critical health awareness and education, thereby promoting inclusive growth and overall well-being. This health initiative, organized as part of global Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is a clear reflection of HerVest's expanded commitment to advancing women's health alongside their financial freedom.
