The wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, has issued a heartfelt appeal to parents and guardians across the state, urging them to provide unwavering attention and quality care to their children. She delivered this crucial message on Wednesday, 18 December 2025, during a special Christmas celebration held at the Government House Grounds in Akure.
A Call for Attentive Parenting and Academic Focus
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa stressed that parental neglect could have severe consequences, potentially driving young people to seek guidance from strangers who may offer dangerous advice. She emphasized that active engagement from parents is a fundamental pillar for protecting the well-being and future of children.
"Please, give your children attention," the First Lady implored the gathering. "Always listen to your children to hear what they have to tell you. Find time for them so that they will not go out to seek advice from a stranger."
She seamlessly linked this call for attentive parenting with the importance of education, describing the youth as the future leaders of both Ondo State and Nigeria at large. "I also want to implore you to take their education seriously. They are the future leaders of this state and our nation," she stated.
Christmas Party Fosters Inclusion for Underprivileged Children
The event where Mrs. Aiyedatiwa spoke was a Christmas party specifically organized for children from less privileged backgrounds. The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Bosede Osamaye, explained that the initiative was spearheaded by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his wife.
Dr. Osamaye highlighted the party's goal to create a platform for social interaction and joy, free from stigma. "It's an opportunity for them to meet with the wife of the governor to have social interaction to make them happy and to expose them to a network of relationships," she said.
The Commissioner noted that the governor provided gifts to create a memorable experience, demonstrating his administration's commitment to child welfare and security. She expressed hope that the positive experience would give the children something to anticipate for the following year's celebration.
Governor Reassures Border Communities on Security
In a related development from the same administration, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa used the third day of his statewide 'Thank-You' tour to address security concerns. On Wednesday, he assured residents living in border communities, particularly in Ose, Owo, and Akure North Local Government Areas, that banditry and criminal activities would not be tolerated.
The Governor reaffirmed that protecting lives and property remains the top priority of his government. He credited the establishment of an Amotekun Rangers camp and the strategic deployment of operatives with significantly reducing crime, allowing farmers and traders to resume activities without fear.
"We will not leave you alone and allow something bad to happen to you," Aiyedatiwa emphasized, stating that security agencies remain on high alert. He added that the improved security landscape has restored public confidence and strengthened citizen-government relations.
The seven-day tour, occurring with Christmas less than nine days away, is designed to bring governance closer to the people, appreciate their support, showcase projects, and distribute palliatives as a gesture of goodwill during the festive season.
