The Kaduna State Government, in collaboration with the Muslim World League (MWL), has completed a state-of-the-art Cardiac Centre in Tudun Wada, Kaduna South Local Government Area. The facility is set to be commissioned on Tuesday by the Secretary General of the League, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa. This development marks a significant milestone in Governor Uba Sani's efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.
Advanced Cardiac Care for All
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Director General of the Kaduna State Interfaith Bureau, Malam Tahir Umar Tahir, the centre will provide advanced cardiovascular diagnosis, treatment, and care to patients in Kaduna and beyond. The facility aims to reduce the number of Nigerians seeking cardiac treatment abroad, and it will be open to patients irrespective of their religious affiliation.
"The Cardiac Centre will provide advanced cardiovascular diagnosis, treatment and care which will substantially stem the tide of patients seeking medical treatment abroad," Mr Tahir said. This initiative is part of the state government's broader efforts to improve access to quality healthcare and strengthen specialised medical services in Kaduna.
Broader Healthcare Reforms Under Uba Sani
The Director General highlighted several interventions by the Uba Sani administration since it assumed office. These include the renovation, equipping, and upgrading of all 255 Primary Healthcare Centres in the state to Level 2 status. The administration has also expanded access to maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent healthcare services, strengthened routine immunisation and disease surveillance, enhanced community outreach programmes, and improved emergency preparedness.
Additionally, the government has supported the implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund and expanded health insurance coverage through the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority. Mr Tahir noted that the state is also revitalising its secondary healthcare system, with general hospitals undergoing infrastructure renewal and modern medical equipment being procured to improve diagnostic capacity.
Investment in Health Workforce
The administration has prioritised the recruitment of healthcare professionals across various cadres, strengthened workforce planning, supported continuous professional development, and invested in capacity building. The government has sustained the implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for medical doctors and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for eligible healthcare professionals.
Regular funding of the Medical Residency Training Fund has also been maintained, which, according to Mr Tahir, demonstrates the administration's commitment to developing the next generation of specialist physicians in the state. These measures are designed to ensure that the healthcare system is not only equipped with modern facilities but also staffed by skilled and motivated personnel.
Complementing Existing Specialised Infrastructure
The commissioning of the Cardiac Centre will further expand Kaduna's specialised healthcare infrastructure, coming after the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital, which was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025. The new facility is expected to complement existing tertiary healthcare institutions in the state and provide residents with greater access to specialised cardiovascular services.
This development underscores the state government's commitment to reducing the financial and logistical burden on patients who previously had to travel abroad for cardiac care. By offering advanced diagnostic and treatment services locally, the centre is poised to become a regional hub for cardiovascular medicine, benefiting not only Kaduna residents but also patients from neighbouring states.
