Lagos State has rolled out a critical new healthcare service designed specifically to manage the medical demands of the annual 'Detty December' festivities. The initiative, a dedicated 24-hour medical hotline, aims to provide visitors and residents with instant, reliable access to premium healthcare services.
A Lifeline for the Festive Season
Coordinated by Akin Eso, the service known as 07000HEALTH (432584) was officially launched on 5 December 2025. It seeks to eliminate the typical delays and confusion that plague healthcare access in Lagos during December, when the city experiences a massive surge in population due to tourists, returning diaspora, and countless events.
"Our goal is to create a seamless healthcare experience during one of the busiest periods in the city’s calendar," Eso stated. He highlighted that the increased movement and high traffic often lead to a spike in non-emergency medical issues like dehydration, fatigue, food-related illnesses, and minor injuries.
How the 07000HEALTH Service Works
The hotline operates as a single point of contact, connecting callers to a coordinated network of medical support. Eso explained the practical applications: "Whether someone needs an IV drip at 2am, a doctor to visit their Airbnb, safe medication delivered to their hotel, or proper direction during an emergency, they can now access that support instantly."
Key services facilitated by the platform include:
- Direct connection to available medical professionals.
- Request for home or hotel visits by doctors.
- Guidance and coordination during emergencies.
- Access to diagnostic tests, pharmacy deliveries, dental, and eye care.
- Clinical assessments for non-critical conditions.
Digital Access and Long-Term Vision
Recognizing the diverse needs of users, the organizers have also launched a companion website. This digital platform caters to individuals who may not have local call access or simply prefer to manage services online, allowing them to request support or schedule check-ups electronically.
This is the first time healthcare access in Lagos has been organised end-to-end for December, Eso emphasized. The service is set to run throughout December and continue afterwards, with a strategic aim to reduce pressure on hospital emergency rooms by addressing minor health concerns before they escalate.
"Both the hotline and the website will operate continuously throughout December and beyond, ensuring that the influx of visitors and heightened city activity does not compromise access to high-quality medical care," he affirmed.
A Call to Hospitality Providers
To maximize the initiative's reach and effectiveness, Eso urged hotels, event organizers, nightlife venues, and all hospitality providers to actively share the 07000HEALTH hotline number with their guests. This collaborative effort is intended to guarantee that immediate medical support is always within reach for everyone enjoying the Detty December celebrations in Lagos.
