A Nigerian medical doctor, Onuoha Cosmas, has taken to social media to warn the public about five dangerous health signs that should never be ignored. In a viral Instagram video, he urged anyone experiencing these symptoms to visit a hospital immediately rather than attempt home treatment. The warning came after he recalled a recent case where an individual ignored warning signs and later died, a situation he attributed to delayed care and unmanaged diabetes.
Doctor Lists 5 Dangerous Signs
Cosmas explained that the video was intended to help people recognise conditions that could become life-threatening if assessment was postponed. According to him, timely hospital evaluation could make a significant difference when serious illness is involved. He outlined five symptoms that should prompt immediate medical consultation.
The first sign involves the presence of blood in faeces. Cosmas noted that many people dismiss this as haemorrhoids, but it could also indicate a more severe condition such as rectal cancer. He urged anyone who notices it to seek examination without delay.
The second sign concerns progressive yellowing of the eyes. He advised against assuming it is malaria and waiting it out at home. Instead, persistent yellowing could point to liver disease and warrants professional assessment.
The third warning relates to swelling affecting both legs on waking, accompanied by fatigue. Cosmas stressed that bilateral leg swelling is different from swelling in one limb and should not be ignored. Such a pattern could be linked to cardiac or renal problems and requires proper medical review.
Persistent Cough and Unexplained Weight Loss
The fourth symptom is a prolonged cough that continues for several weeks or worsens over time. Cosmas mentioned that a persistent cough might be associated with heart or kidney issues, respiratory infections, or malignancies affecting the lungs, and therefore needs hospital evaluation.
The final sign is unexplained weight loss. According to him, sudden weight reduction could be connected to diabetes, cancer, malnutrition, or other underlying disorders, and he encouraged people experiencing it to be assessed by a doctor.
He concluded by urging viewers not to stay at home when these changes appear, but to present themselves at a hospital for proper checks.
