The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has attributed the surge in fake Schengen visas to Morocco's tightened transit regulations for Nigerian passengers. The authority warns that travelers attempting to transit through Morocco with fraudulent visas face detention and deportation.
Morocco's New Transit Rules
According to the NCAA, Morocco has implemented stricter entry requirements for Nigerians transiting through its airports. These rules require passengers to hold valid Schengen visas before boarding flights to European destinations, a move aimed at curbing illegal migration.
The NCAA stated that many Nigerian travelers, unaware of the new policy, have fallen victim to fraudulent visa vendors who sell fake Schengen visas. These travelers are then stopped at Moroccan airports and subjected to severe penalties, including being returned to Nigeria.
Impact on Nigerian Travelers
The authority highlighted that the number of Nigerians stranded in Morocco has increased significantly since the rule took effect. The NCAA is collaborating with airlines to ensure passengers are informed of the requirements before departure.
"Passengers must verify the authenticity of their visas through official channels," said a spokesperson for the NCAA. "We advise all travelers to use only accredited visa processing agencies."

The NCAA urged passengers to check the validity of their Schengen visas with the embassy or consulate of the Schengen country they intend to visit. Travelers are also encouraged to report any suspicious visa offers to the authorities.
