The member representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency in Anambra State, Maureen Chinwe Gwacham, has successfully concluded a four-day medical outreach that brought essential healthcare services to residents across her constituency and neighboring communities.
Comprehensive Healthcare Services
The outreach featured a range of medical services, including surgical operations, distribution of medicated glasses, and treatment for patients suffering from various eye conditions. Beneficiaries described the intervention as both timely and impactful, particularly for indigent residents who had previously struggled to access quality healthcare.
Organizers noted that the program also included routine medical check-ups for patients who underwent eye surgeries, as part of efforts to ensure sustained post-operative care and recovery.
Lawmaker's Commitment
Speaking during the outreach, Gwacham described the initiative as a life-saving intervention aimed at supporting visually impaired residents who could not afford medical treatment. She stated, “This medical outreach was an outright premeditation to provide succour for my constituents who are visually impaired and could not afford medical bills. Moreover, it focuses not just on restoring sight, but on educating my people on precautionary measures to take care of their eyes, as it remains one of the most vital sensory organs in the human body and I do not wish visual impairment on anyone.”
The lawmaker emphasized that this was the first outreach of its kind in the Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency and noted that it was extended to residents of neighboring Idemili North as part of efforts to promote inclusive and non-discriminatory representation.
Community Impact
Observers remarked that the extension of the program beyond the constituency reflected Gwacham's commitment to humanitarian service and people-oriented leadership. Beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation, describing the outreach as a major relief for vulnerable residents in the area.
Future Plans
Gwacham also disclosed that additional interventions are being planned, particularly in the agricultural sector, to help cushion the effects of economic hardship on residents of Oyi/Ayamelum and surrounding communities. She reaffirmed her dedication to quality representation and effective lawmaking, assuring constituents that more people-focused programs would be implemented.
