Women Leaders Group Launches Medical Outreach Across All 36 States
Women Leaders Group Medical Outreach to Cover All 36 States

The Women Leaders Support Advancement (WLSA) Group has launched an ambitious nationwide medical outreach initiative aimed at reaching vulnerable populations across all 36 states of Nigeria, beginning with a phased rollout in the northern region.

Initiative Overview

The initiative, which made a major impact in Kano State, is designed to bridge the healthcare gap for underserved communities, particularly women and children who often lack access to basic medical services. Speaking on the broader vision of the programme, a representative of the group, Deborah Jan-Hornecker, said the outreach is part of a structured plan to cover the entire country.

“Not all women have the opportunity to work and earn money. Some cannot even afford basic medications like malaria or blood pressure drugs. That is why this intervention is important—it brings relief, dignity, and hope,” she said.

She noted that the group has already carried out similar interventions in states such as Nasarawa, where hospitals in Karu Local Government Area received support in the form of essential drugs.

Phased Rollout

“Our goal is clear—to go round all 36 states of the federation. We are starting with the 19 northern states, with Kano as a key milestone. From here, we are moving to Zamfara and Kaduna, and once we complete the North, we will extend the programme to the southern part of the country,” she added.

Jan-Hornecker emphasized that the initiative is driven by a commitment to give back to society and support Nigerians who cannot afford basic healthcare.

“This is our own little way of adding value to our people. Not everyone can afford medical care, and interventions like this help to close that gap,” she said.

Impact in Kano

At the Kano outreach, no fewer than 1,500 women and children benefited from free healthcare services delivered over two days at the Sharada Primary Healthcare Centre in Kano Municipal Council. Participants were drawn from all 44 local government areas of Kano State and received free consultations, medications, diagnostic tests, and referrals for serious health conditions. Food items, including immune boosters and other nutrient-rich supplies, were also distributed to support their overall well-being.

Future Plans

The nationwide rollout underscores WLSA’s commitment to improving access to healthcare and enhancing the well-being of vulnerable groups across Nigeria, positioning the organisation as a key player in grassroots humanitarian intervention.
