Timi Frank Urges Tinubu to Probe NMDPRA CEO Over Dangote's $5m Allegation
Activist Demands Probe of NMDPRA CEO Over Corruption Claims

Political activist Comrade Timi Frank has made a strong appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging the immediate suspension and investigation of Engr. Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). This call follows serious corruption allegations leveled against the regulator's head by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group.

A Call for Presidential Action and Accountability

In a statement issued on 16 December 2025, Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and current ULMWP Ambassador, described Dangote's claims as profoundly alarming. The core allegation suggests that a staggering $5 million of public funds was used to finance the overseas education of the NMDPRA CEO's children in Switzerland.

Frank emphasized that the gravity of such an accusation, especially when it comes from a figure of Aliko Dangote's stature, cannot be ignored by the presidency. He warned that continued silence on the matter sends a dangerous message to the Nigerian public and undermines the fight against graft.

Economic Hardship and the Morality of Extravagance

The activist framed the allegation within the context of Nigeria's severe economic challenges. He argued that it is morally reprehensible for any government appointee to be linked with such extravagant personal spending while ordinary citizens grapple with hunger and struggle to survive.

"Nigerians are hungry and struggling to survive, yet we are confronted with allegations of obscene luxury by public officials. This is the same pattern we have seen in previous high-profile corruption cases," Frank stated. He insisted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) must launch an immediate and transparent probe.

Consequences of Inaction and a Commendation for Dangote

Frank cautioned that failure to properly investigate these claims could further erode dwindling public trust in government institutions. He also noted it could discourage potential investors, who are already wary of corruption risks in Nigeria, and reinforce negative international perceptions.

In a notable shift, Frank praised Aliko Dangote for his courage in speaking out, hailing it as an act of patriotism and civic duty. He welcomed Dangote as a "newest comrade" in the fight against corruption and expressed hope that the business magnate would continue to expose corrupt practices within the government.

Frank concluded with a firm demand for accountability, stating that if Engr. Farouk Ahmed is innocent, he should voluntarily step aside and submit himself to a thorough investigation to clear his name. "This issue must not be swept under the carpet. Accountability must prevail. Nigeria cannot afford silence or delay in the face of allegations of this magnitude," he asserted.
