Anti-Corruption Group Reacts to Alleged Smear Campaigns on Benue ADC Governorship Aspirant

An anti-corruption civil society organization has issued a stern warning to social media influencers and content creators regarding attempts to tarnish the reputation of Dr Peter Adejoh, a governorship aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State. The Global Integrity Crusade Network (GICN), in a statement released on Friday, February 27, and signed by its president, Edward OMAGA, Esq., emphasized that preliminary investigations reveal the attacks are politically motivated.

Group Exonerates Adejoh from Wrongdoing

GICN, composed of legal professionals, has cleared Dr Adejoh and his management team of any misconduct related to the defunct 'Peach & Prime' foreign exchange trading company. The group highlighted that no Nigerian court has indicted Adejoh for fraud, and there have been no complaints from investors regarding the company's collapse during the 2009 global economic recession. According to the statement, Adejoh demonstrated integrity by remaining in Nigeria despite pressures and initiating a repayment process for verified investors, unlike others who fled abroad.

Ongoing Repayment Efforts and Political Motivations

The group noted that 'Peach & Prime' published a public notice urging past genuine investors to submit claims for verification, with repayments ongoing to date. GICN condemned what it described as "enemies of progress" exploiting a 17-year-old business failure to discredit Adejoh as he seeks elective office. The statement questioned the timing of these social media campaigns, linking them to political opponents aiming to undermine his candidacy.

Adejoh's Stance on Insecurity and Local Government Autonomy

In related developments, Dr Adejoh has previously addressed security challenges in Nigeria, advocating for full autonomy for local governments as a key solution to banditry, kidnapping, and communal conflicts. He argued that empowering local councils with resources and authority is crucial for addressing grassroots insecurity, particularly in Benue State.
