CCAC Demands FG Clarify Provost Appointment at Jigawa Agricultural College
CCAC Urges FG to Explain College Provost Appointment

The Citizens Coalition Against Corruption (CCAC) has demanded that the Federal Government provide clear details about the selection process that led to Dr. Muhammad Yusha'u Gwaram becoming the pioneer Provost of the Federal College of Agriculture in Kirikasamma, Jigawa State.

Stakeholders Express Concerns Over Appointment

According to the anti-corruption group, the appointment has raised significant concerns among various stakeholders in Nigeria's agricultural education sector. These concerns stem from past administrative developments during Dr. Gwaram's previous tenure at the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPT) in Kano.

Mohammed Abdullahi, the National Coordinator of CCAC, emphasized that transparency is particularly crucial because the Kirikasamma College is still in its formative stage. He argued that early leadership decisions could profoundly influence the institution's culture, academic direction, and public credibility for years to come.

Past Controversies Resurface

The coalition highlighted that a 2023 National Industrial Court judgment involving FCAPT Kano continues to be discussed publicly and has affected how some observers view leadership transitions within the agricultural education sector. However, CCAC clarified that it was not validating any specific claims or allegations associated with the case.

Various petitions and complaints previously circulated by members of the public about administrative matters at FCAPT have reemerged in discussions surrounding the new appointment. While Dr. Gwaram has consistently pointed to his achievements in academic growth and infrastructure development, some stakeholders continue to question governance practices during his previous service.

Calls for Transparent Selection Process

The coalition stressed that the Federal College of Agriculture, Kirikasamma was established by an Act of the National Assembly in 2021. As a new institution, it deserves a leadership selection process that builds public confidence.

"The law clearly outlines how the Provost should be chosen, including the involvement of a Joint Council and Academic Selection Board. Yet, there has been no official explanation of how the recent appointment was reached, and this lack of clarity has added to public unease," the coalition stated.

CCAC has called on the Federal Government, the Minister of Agriculture, and the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) to provide a comprehensive explanation of the appointment process. Such disclosure would help strengthen confidence in the administration of agricultural education institutions across Nigeria.

While reaffirming its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and due process in public institutions, the coalition urged all stakeholders to act in accordance with the law.
