The corruption trial of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai faced a setback on Monday as two co-defendants failed to appear before a Federal High Court in Kaduna. The trial, which involves allegations of abuse of office, fraud, and financial misconduct, is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Court Proceedings
El-Rufai was present in court alongside ICPC officials, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), and police personnel. However, the absence of the two co-defendants prevented the court from proceeding with the matter. Consequently, the judge adjourned the case and fixed June 28, 2026, for the continuation of the trial.
Allegations and Denials
El-Rufai has consistently denied all allegations against him. Prosecutors maintain that public funds were improperly released for projects that were allegedly not executed or were irregularly managed during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State. The case continues to draw significant public attention.
