Dr Felix Ekhaguere, a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Natural Resources in Edo State, has passed away at the age of 84. He died on Monday, June 1, 2026, in Benin City after a brief illness, according to a statement issued on behalf of the family by his son, Osaretin.

The family described the late Ekhaguere as an extraordinary man whose life was defined by grace, perseverance, excellence and an unwavering commitment to the healing of others. He was born on October 26, 1941, in Utoka village, Ovia North East Local Council of Edo State, to Mr Morgan Ekhaguere of the Asabor family of Ezoti, Ogbe quarters, and Mrs Grace Ehiarinmwian Ekhaguere (née Imadiyi), both of blessed memory.
Distinguished Career
As a public servant, Ekhaguere served Nigeria with distinction over four decades of professional practice. He was appointed Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Central Hospital Benin, where he rose through the ranks to become Senior Consultant and later Chief Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. In 1984, he was appointed Medical Director of the hospital.
His contributions to healthcare and public administration in Edo State remain significant, and he will be remembered for his dedication and service.
