Lagos Government Urged to Boost Non-Kinetic Security Measures
Lagos Urged to Boost Non-Kinetic Security Measures

The Lagos State government has been called upon to intensify non-kinetic approaches to address insecurity within the state. This was one of the key submissions made by participants at the two-day 19th Executive-legislative parley, themed 'Equal Participation In Governance: Highlighting the Importance of Collaboration in Achieving the Present Administration’s Themes ++ Agenda'.

Communique Highlights

A communique signed at the end of the parley by the Special Adviser, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, stated that the forum aimed to promote effective collaboration among the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of government to address governance challenges and policy implementation.

Participants included members of the Lagos State Executive Council; members of the National Assembly representing Lagos State; members of the Lagos State House of Assembly; members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC); party leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC); chairmen of local councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs); and top government officials.

Key Resolutions

The participants resolved that the three arms of government should deepen their harmonious working relationship through collaboration, cooperation, coordination, communication, and consensus. They also emphasized the need for structured engagement between the state government and party structures to ensure inclusion of grassroots participatory decision-making and shared growth.

The parley further stated that the party and government should develop stronger synergy to strengthen mechanisms that will bring party cohesion and facilitate success in the 2027 elections.

Other resolutions included: The executive must ensure early engagement with the legislature on the appropriation process (budget); the executive must continue its culture of robust engagements with the legislature on proposed policies; the three arms of government should promote unified direction to reduce duplication, inefficiency, and improve communication to enhance development.

For the legislature (state and national), only candidates who can coherently articulate the views and plans of the party should be endorsed. There should be an institutionalized quarterly meeting of the executive; members of the National Assembly representing Lagos State and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly should review national-level engagements, align priorities, performance, and chart a way forward. The executive/legislative parley should be restructured to facilitate closed-door discussions of the various political organs – the three arms of government, the party, state and national legislators, and the GAC.
