NSCDC Dismisses 58 Officers, Including ACG, for Gross Misconduct
NSCDC dismisses 58 officers for misconduct

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken a decisive step in its internal cleansing exercise by dismissing a total of 58 officers for various acts of gross misconduct. This major disciplinary action was announced by the Corps' Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, in Abuja on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Senior Officers Face the Axe

In a significant move, the NSCDC dismissed 38 senior officers, which notably includes an Assistant Commandant General (ACG). Their offences, as detailed in a statement by the National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, centred on gross misconduct, insubordination, and acts deemed unbecoming of a superior officer. These dismissals were executed in strict adherence to the Public Service Rules (PSR) and followed recommendations from the NSCDC Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.

The disciplinary measures for senior staff were not limited to dismissals. The Corps also demoted two senior officers by two ranks, demoted another by one rank with a loss of seniority, and issued warning letters to five others. These actions were directed by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).

Junior Staff Dismissed for Serious Offences

The purge extended to the junior cadre, where 20 personnel were dismissed from service. The Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee examined about 30 cases involving severe violations. The offences that led to their dismissal included:

  • Job racketeering and extortion
  • Aiding and abetting illegal dealings in petroleum products
  • Fraudulent practices and gun running
  • Absence Without Official Leave (AWOL)

In addition to the dismissals, three junior personnel were demoted by one rank, while seven others received warning letters. These decisions were based on the NSCDC's Standard Operating Procedures, Code of Conduct, and the Public Service Rules.

Commitment to Repositioning and Zero Tolerance

Commandant General Audi stated that these decisive measures underscore the administration's commitment to repositioning the Corps for effective service delivery. He revealed that within the year 2025, disciplinary actions were meted out to 76 personnel in total, serving as a deterrent to others.

While Audi highlighted his administration's achievements in areas like clearing promotion arrears, implementing a life insurance scheme, and ensuring gender inclusiveness, he issued a stern warning. He reiterated that truancy, indiscipline, or violation of extant laws and ethics would not be tolerated. He charged all officers to uphold professionalism, loyalty, and regimental discipline, emphasizing that "to whom much is given, much is expected."

The NSCDC boss also expressed the Corps' readiness to undertake VIP protection duties assigned through a Presidential Order, acknowledging the enormity of the task but affirming the operatives' preparedness to deliver.
