Sowore Mocks Malami: 'Now You Feel Persecuted'

Human rights activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore on Monday, April 27, mocked the immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, during an appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sowore's Remarks in Court

In a video circulating online, Sowore was seen addressing Malami directly, saying the former Minister of Justice was now experiencing the oppression he meted out to Sowore and others while he held office during the Buhari-led administration.

“You see how it feels now to be persecuted. When you were with Buhari at that time, you were bragging. We warned you then that there is failure in the justice system, but you didn’t listen, and now the system is dealing with you. There is failure in the system. The system is dealing with you now,” Sowore said.

Acknowledgment of Resilience

Despite his criticism, Sowore acknowledged Malami’s resilience, stating, “At least I’m glad that you are strong.”

The activist insisted that the challenges facing the country’s justice system affect both critics and former officials alike. “We are not all on the same side… even the oppressors are oppressing you now,” he said.

Call for Accountability

Sowore further reiterated his long-held position on governance and accountability in Nigeria. “As far as the Nigeria project is concerned, no matter how powerful you people are, we will never support you. We are resilient till tomorrow,” he said.

Malami's Response

Malami, who responded briefly during the exchange, maintained that he remained engaged with legal proceedings and can never be put down by anyone. “I can never be down. Well, I have been attending all my court sittings. I will keep attending. And I remain strong,” he said.

The viral video of the exchange has sparked widespread reactions on social media, highlighting ongoing debates about justice and accountability in Nigeria.
