Political activist and former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Comrade Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order an independent investigation into serious allegations against the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq.
A Chain of Contradictions in National Security
In a strongly-worded statement issued on 19 December 2025, Frank described the unfolding situation as a "chain of contradictions" that exposes grave flaws in Nigeria's security framework. The controversy stems from the interception of armed men in a vehicle linked to the Kwara State Government by Nigerian soldiers.
The arrested individuals reportedly confessed to receiving both the arms and the vehicle from the state government. Frank highlighted that after initial denials, state officials later confirmed the men were members of Miyetti Allah, allegedly operating under a federal security arrangement connected to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
Shifting Narratives and a Call for Accountability
The activist raised critical concerns about the NSA's office, which first admitted to providing arms to vigilantes under the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, only to later deny arming kidnappers and militias, referring to the armed individuals as "vigilantes known to the NSA."
"This leaves Nigerians with fundamental questions," Frank stated. "Who authorised the arms? Who recruited these armed men? Why did official accounts change repeatedly within days? Is the Kwara State Governor telling the truth, or is the NSA covering up?"
He labeled the incident a "national security scandal," suggesting that the contradictions indicate government officials might be manipulating the country's insecurity for political gain. Frank argued that in a transparent system, the NSA would have stepped aside to allow for a credible probe instead of engaging in what he called "evasions and damage control."
Regional Tensions and a Plea for Presidential Action
Frank also questioned the rationale behind armed Miyetti Allah operatives functioning in Yorubaland, noting that local communities had repeatedly warned that deploying armed migrant herders would exacerbate insecurity. He urged President Tinubu to initiate a full, independent investigation into the roles of the NSA and the Kwara State Government and to hold any officials who armed non-state actors accountable.
He concluded with a warning that these inconsistencies suggest internal sabotage of the administration, with someone deliberately lying or concealing the truth. The call for a probe places significant pressure on the Tinubu administration to address these alarming allegations transparently.
