ADC Accuses APC of Plotting Protests to Destabilize Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections
ADC Accuses APC of Plotting Protests to Destabilize Opposition

ADC Raises Alarm Over Alleged APC Plot to Organize Protests Against Opposition Leadership

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians regarding what it describes as a sinister plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to orchestrate protests aimed at destabilizing its leadership. This accusation comes as political tensions escalate ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC positioning itself as a key opposition force.

Allegations of Tactical Shift by APC

National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, publicly alleged on his social media platforms that the APC has changed its strategy after unsuccessful attempts to leverage the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the ADC. According to Abdullahi, the ruling party is now resorting to organizing protests to create chaos and undermine the opposition's stability.

"ADC remains focused on our duty to Nigerians, and we shall remain law-abiding. We will, however, resist by all lawful and necessary means. If they are not acting on his orders, President Tinubu should rein in his enforcers before it is too late," Abdullahi stated emphatically.

Details of the Alleged Protest Strategy

The ADC claims that the APC's plan involves sponsoring a public protest in Abuja, allegedly organized by a notorious minister. The objective, according to the opposition party, is to generate artificial public pressure on INEC to recognize an individual who had previously resigned and was expelled from the ADC as the National Chairman.

"Their expectation is that a protest will give oxygen to a case that is already suffocating in the courts under the weight of its own illegality," the ADC's statement explained. The party asserts that this maneuver is part of a broader scheme by the APC to hijack the leadership of what it calls "the only viable opposition party left in the country."

Context of Political Defections and Rising Tensions

This development follows significant political movements, including the defection of several lawmakers from the Labour Party to the ADC. Notable figures such as Hon. George Ozodinobi, Harris Okonkwo, and Seyi Sowunmi have recently joined the ADC, bolstering its parliamentary presence and opposition credibility.

The ADC emphasized that the APC's alleged actions reflect desperation in response to the growing momentum of the opposition. "They are not just afraid of our momentum. They are afraid of what happens when the Nigerian people start paying attention and begin to believe that change is possible," the statement added.

ADC's Commitment to Lawful Resistance

Despite the allegations, the ADC reiterated its commitment to operating within legal boundaries while defending its organizational integrity. The party vowed to use all lawful means to resist any attempts to destabilize its leadership, calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene if the alleged plots are not under his direct orders.

As the 2027 elections approach, this confrontation highlights the intensifying political rivalry in Nigeria, with opposition parties accusing the ruling establishment of employing underhanded tactics to maintain control. The ADC's public alert serves as both a warning to its supporters and a challenge to the APC's political strategies.
