ADC Aims for Oyo Sweep in 2027, Cites Obi's Defection as Game-Changer
ADC Boasts of Oyo Victory in 2027, Backed by Peter Obi

Chief Niyi Aborisade, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, has boldly declared that his party is poised to secure a sweeping victory across the state during the 2027 general elections. He made this confident assertion while addressing journalists in Ibadan on Sunday, the 4th of January, 2026.

Obi's Move Signals ADC's Rising Credibility

Aborisade, a British-trained human rights lawyer and a governorship aspirant for the 2027 race, pointed to two major factors driving the ADC's momentum. He highlighted the growing popularity of the party and the recent high-profile defection of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as clear indicators of a shifting political landscape.

He argued that Obi's decision to join the ADC was not a random event but a strategic move that underscores the party's emergence as the most credible and progressive platform in Nigeria. "Peter Obi’s defection to the ADC clearly shows that the party is becoming increasingly popular and attractive to genuine progressives across Nigeria," Aborisade stated.

Capitalizing on Dissatisfaction and PDP's Crisis

The ADC chieftain attributed the party's expanding support base to the widespread economic hardship experienced by Nigerians, which he said has fueled a search for alternative leadership. He also took aim at the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a party in decline.

Aborisade, who recently defected from the PDP himself, blamed the party's prolonged internal crises for a mass movement of its members into the ADC, particularly within Oyo State. "The crisis within the PDP has weakened its structure. Many of its members in Oyo State have realised that the party no longer offers a credible platform, and they are now joining the ADC," he explained.

Grassroots Strategy and Open Primaries for 2027

Outlining the party's preparations, Aborisade revealed that the ADC is diligently building strong grassroots structures across all local government areas in Oyo State. The goal, he said, is to position the party to take over political leadership.

He emphasized the party's commitment to internal democracy, stating that the ADC remains open to all aspirants. He stressed that the party's presidential ticket for the 2027 election would be decided through a transparent and democratic primary process.

Aborisade urged party members and supporters to remain focused and united. With a growing support base and expanding political structures, he assured them that the ADC is well-positioned not only to sweep Oyo State in 2027 but also to play a leading role at the national level.
