Police in Katsina State have arrested a 19-year-old man for alleged impersonation and attempted robbery involving a toy pistol. The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, August 31, in Katsina.
Arrest After Report of Attempted Robbery
According to Sadiq-Aliyu, the suspect was arrested after the police received a report at about 7pm on August 22 that a man was chasing an unidentified person while pointing what appeared to be a pistol at him in an attempt to rob him.
“Consequently, in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group, police operatives swiftly responded and arrested the suspect at about 8:00 p.m. at Kofar Sauri, Katsina,” he said.
Recovery of Toy Pistol and Ongoing Investigation
The police spokesman said a black toy pistol was recovered from the suspect during a search. He added that the suspect remained in police custody as investigations continued.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Umar-Fage, commended members of the community and the local vigilante group for their vigilance and cooperation.
Commissioner Urges Vigilance and Collaboration
The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. He said sustained collaboration between security agencies and members of the public was vital to tackling crime and criminality in the state.
