In a move to address persistent power outages, a gubernatorial hopeful in Oyo State has delivered on a major promise by providing solar energy solutions to key political and electoral offices.
From Promise to Action: Solar Systems Delivered
Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for the Oyo State governorship, has officially handed over solar power installations. The event took place recently, specifically targeting offices within the Egbeda Local Government Area.
The intervention saw the installation of solar panels and fans at the PDP State Secretariat. Furthermore, complete solar power systems were set up at both the PDP Egbeda Local Government Secretariat and the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) located in Egbeda.
Addressing Grassroots Administrative Challenges
Ajadi stated that the initiative was designed to mitigate the crippling power problems that have long hampered administrative efficiency at the grassroots level for political and electoral bodies. He emphasized that his gesture reflects a core belief in practical support for public institutions.
"I believe leadership begins with keeping one’s word," Ajadi said during the presentation. "When I made these promises, I did so with a clear intention to fulfil them. Today, we are not commissioning projects; we are simply honouring commitments."
He highlighted the indispensable role of reliable electricity in governance and service delivery, advocating for renewable energy as a sustainable alternative. "Solar energy is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. Political parties, electoral bodies and public institutions must function efficiently, and power is central to that efficiency. This is my modest contribution to strengthening our democratic institutions," he added.
Officials Applaud Practical Impact
The move has been warmly received by officials at both the state and local government levels of the PDP. A senior party official at the Egbeda Local Government Secretariat confirmed that the solar installation would significantly improve daily operations.
"This is a clear example of action matching words," the official noted. "With this solar installation, our offices can now function without disruption, meetings can be held seamlessly, and party administration will improve."
Staff at the INEC office in Egbeda also expressed their gratitude. They pointed out that having stable electricity would greatly enhance their election-related preparations and routine administrative duties, especially during peak periods like elections.
Reiterating the foundation of his political ambition, Ajadi vowed to continue with initiatives that strengthen institutions and improve community welfare across Oyo State. "Governance is about impact. If allowed to serve, my administration will prioritise infrastructure, transparency and sustainable development from the grassroots upward," he concluded.
