Anambra 2025 Governorship Election Kicks Off

Awka, Anambra State - The political future of Anambra state hangs in the balance as hundreds of voters across Nigeria's south-east are expected to participate in the highly anticipated November 2025 governorship election.

The electoral battle features prominent candidates from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Labour Party (LP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC), setting the stage for a fiercely contested poll. Our reporters are stationed across various Local Government Areas (LGAs) to provide comprehensive, real-time updates on voting proceedings and the declaration of results from polling units.

Election Preparations: A Mixed Bag of Readiness

As the clock ticked down to election day, a picture of mixed preparedness emerged from different parts of the state. In Aguata Local Government Area, as of 6:58 pm on Friday, November 7, there were positive signs. Three out of four Registration Area Centre (RAC) managers confirmed they had received all necessary materials for the election scheduled for Saturday, November 8.

They reported being fully ready with all sensitive materials, a crucial step for a smooth electoral process. However, the situation was not without its hiccups. Some ad hoc staff remained at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, awaiting transportation to their assigned locations.

More concerning were the complaints from several ad hoc staff who discovered that their names were missing from the list of personnel scheduled to work on election day, potentially posing a logistical challenge for INEC.

Mobilisation in Onitsha North

Meanwhile, in Onitsha North LGA, a more dynamic scene unfolded earlier in the evening. At 6:22 pm, INEC's mobilization efforts were in full swing for the gubernatorial election. Bus drivers were on standby, ready to convey ad hoc staff to their respective Registration Area Centres (RACs).

The ad hoc staff were described as hyperactive, energetically loading election materials onto various buses in preparation for departure to their posts. This proactive movement indicated a push to ensure that all personnel and materials were deployed in a timely manner ahead of the opening of polls.

As Anambra decides its next leader, all eyes are on the electoral process, the performance of the major parties, and the efficiency of INEC in managing this critical democratic exercise.
