Anambra 2025: LP's George Moghalu Loses His Own Polling Unit to Soludo
Anambra Election: Moghalu loses polling unit to Soludo

Labour Party Candidate Suffers Setback in Home Territory

In a surprising development during the Anambra State 2025 governorship election, Labour Party candidate George Moghalu has experienced a significant setback by losing his own polling unit to incumbent Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The election results from Uruagu Ward 1 in Nnewi North Local Government Area revealed that Moghalu, who cast his vote at this very unit, managed to secure only 22 votes from his immediate community.

Detailed Breakdown of Polling Unit Results

The presiding officer of the polling unit, Okonkwo Ebere, officially announced the results at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, following the conclusion of voting activities.

Governor Charles Soludo emerged as the clear winner in Moghalu's polling unit, polling an impressive 57 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, trailed significantly with just 5 votes, while the Labour Party's standard bearer, George Moghalu, settled for 22 votes.

The total valid votes counted at the polling unit stood at 85, representing less than 20 percent of the 463 registered voters in the unit. This relatively low turnout has raised questions about voter participation in this particular area.

Political Significance of the Result

This outcome carries substantial symbolic weight for the Labour Party, which counts former Anambra State governor and presidential hopeful Peter Obi among its prominent figures. Losing one's own polling unit is often viewed as a significant political indicator of broader electoral challenges.

The defeat comes despite earlier predictions from prominent spiritual leader Primate Elijah Ayodele, who had expressed strong confidence in Soludo's re-election prospects. The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Lagos had pointed to the governor's performance across key sectors including infrastructure, education, and economy as factors that would secure his victory.

Primate Ayodele had gone as far as suggesting that major opposition candidates should have stepped down for Governor Soludo, citing what he described as transformative achievements that had made Anambra State better under the APGA administration.

As the election results continue to trickle in from across Anambra State, political analysts are closely watching whether this trend in Moghalu's polling unit reflects a broader pattern of support for the incumbent governor or represents an isolated incident in what promises to be a closely contested election.
