APC Digital Committee Launches Ambitious Outreach Ahead of National Convention
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a comprehensive digital communication strategy ahead of its upcoming National Convention, with committee leaders setting ambitious targets to reach millions of Nigerians both domestically and internationally.
Committee Leadership Outlines Vision
During the inaugural meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, March 24, Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago, who chairs the Committee on Digital and New Media, emphasized the critical importance of effective communication throughout the convention process. Governor Bago urged committee members to demonstrate unwavering dedication and make necessary sacrifices to achieve their communication objectives.
"Our mandate extends beyond simply promoting the National Convention," Governor Bago stated. "We have the responsibility to communicate the numerous achievements recorded under President Bola Tinubu's administration to both national and international audiences."
The governor also revealed significant party developments, noting: "Today we welcomed the 32nd governor to the APC, and tomorrow we will receive the 33rd," indicating ongoing political realignments within Nigeria's political landscape.
Deputy Speaker Emphasizes Grassroots Connectivity
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, serving as co-chairman of the committee, provided additional context about the committee's mission. He stressed that the digital team's role is central to maintaining the party's connection with grassroots members across Nigeria.
"We are depending on you so much to reach millions of our members in their homes," Deputy Speaker Kalu told committee members. "It is your duty to use all digital platforms, without restrictions, to showcase what we have done, and not just about the convention."
Kalu elaborated on the broader significance of their work: "We are not just doing a convention. We are showcasing to the world that there is a party in Africa that believes in real democracy for the people." He specifically tasked members with communicating the essence of President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda to global audiences.
Ambitious Communication Targets
The committee has established specific numerical targets for their outreach efforts:
- Reach approximately 100 million Nigerians across all digital platforms
- Communicate with 4 million people in the international community
- Utilize every available digital platform without restrictions
- Showcase both convention activities and administration achievements
Comparisons to International Standards
Committee leaders indicated that their digital operations aim to match the sophistication of established political communication systems, specifically referencing the digital strategies employed by the Democratic and Republican parties in the United States. This comparison underscores the APC's commitment to implementing world-class political communication methodologies.
Presidential Support and Implementation
Ortega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Digital and New Media, addressed journalists following the committee's inauguration. He confirmed that the committee would ensure effective information dissemination to both Nigerian citizens and global observers, emphasizing the administration's commitment to transparent communication.
Convention Context and Party Preparations
This digital initiative unfolds as the ruling party prepares for its National Convention. The APC has maintained that it will preserve its current zoning structure while having already screened all candidates for national positions. Additionally, congresses have been successfully conducted in each state, establishing the organizational foundation for the upcoming convention.
The comprehensive digital strategy represents a significant investment in political communication, aiming to strengthen party cohesion, showcase governmental achievements, and reinforce democratic credentials both within Nigeria and on the international stage.
