APC Forum Endorses Micro-Zoning of National Chairmanship to Plateau State

The Plateau State Forum in Abuja has publicly described the micro-zoning of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairmanship position to Plateau State as a fair, inclusive, and equitable decision. This move is seen as a recognition of the zone's significant contributions to the growth and development of the party over the years.

Endorsements for Second Terms

In a significant show of support, the forum has also endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for second terms ahead of the 2027 general elections. This endorsement was announced during a press conference held on Wednesday by the forum's Chairman, Hon. Yakubu Pam Gam Sakondong.

Hon. Sakondong praised the leadership of the APC under National Chairman Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda for strengthening party structures, enhancing inclusiveness, and stabilising the organisation on a national scale. He highlighted that Yilwatda's tenure has brought about key reforms that have modernised the party and expanded its reach.

Key Reforms Under Yilwatda's Leadership

The group pointed to several important reforms implemented under Yilwatda's leadership, which have positively impacted the party's operations and membership base. These reforms include:

  • Electronic membership registration to streamline processes and increase accessibility.
  • Youth-focused initiatives aimed at engaging younger demographics in political activities.
  • Improved representation for women and persons with disabilities, ensuring a more diverse and inclusive party structure.

According to the forum, Yilwatda's open-door policy and dedicated reconciliation efforts have successfully attracted new members to the APC. This includes prominent political figures from other parties who have joined the APC, bolstering its political strength and influence.

Strengthening Party Position

The forum also noted that the recent alignment of Governor Mutfwang and other key stakeholders with the APC has significantly strengthened the party's position both within Plateau State and across the nation. This alignment is viewed as a strategic move that enhances the APC's grassroots support and political clout.

Regarding party administration, the group commended the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) for its decision to zone the national chairmanship to the North Central region and subsequently micro-zone it to Plateau State. This decision was made ahead of the March 27–28, 2026 national convention, and the forum described it as a demonstration of fairness and a proper acknowledgment of the state's role in advancing the party's objectives.

Electoral Success and Future Outlook

The forum further praised the APC's performance in the February 21, 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, where the party secured victories in five out of the six councils. This success was partly attributed to the efforts of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, whose leadership and strategies contributed to the electoral wins.

Congratulating the newly elected council chairmen and councillors, the forum expressed confidence in their ability to deliver effective grassroots governance and address the needs of their constituents. Looking ahead to the future, the group urged Nigerians, particularly indigenes of Plateau State, to support the APC's reform agenda and rally behind its leadership.

Reaffirming its commitment to the party's "Renewed Hope" vision, the forum expressed optimism that continued backing for President Tinubu and Governor Mutfwang would ensure sustained development and political stability beyond the 2027 general elections. This support is seen as crucial for maintaining the momentum of progress and unity within the party and the nation at large.
