Supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State have launched a vigorous campaign to convince prominent figure Shehu Ahmed-Tukur to enter the gubernatorial race for the 2027 elections.
Massive Rally in Lafia
The movement, known as the Architect Shehu Ahmed Tukur Vanguard (ASAT), organized a significant rally in Lafia, the state capital, where members from across the five local government areas of Nasarawa South Senatorial District gathered. The event took place on November 19, 2025, and featured passionate appeals from various community leaders.
Abdullahi Yammani, the Director General of ASAT who hails from Lafia Local Council, emphasized that while current Governor Abdullahi Sule has performed admirably in transforming the state, there's a critical need for a competent successor to build upon these achievements. "We will not relent in our efforts to convince Tukur to contest," Yammani declared during the rally.
Growing Support Across Local Governments
Adamu Oyiko, representing Doma Local Government Area, expressed that residents in his council are actively seeking quality leadership and see Tukur as the ideal candidate to provide it. The consensus among supporters is that Tukur's extensive humanitarian work and community development initiatives make him exceptionally qualified for the governorship position.
The ASAT group has pledged to continue their mobilization efforts across Nasarawa State, focusing on demonstrating the widespread public support for Tukur's potential candidacy. The 2027 gubernatorial election is already generating significant political interest as various factions within the APC begin positioning their preferred candidates.
