The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released a timetable for primary elections covering both restored state constituencies and legislative by-elections across five states, following a decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reinstate four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states.
The announcement, made by the APC national secretariat, comes after INEC restored the Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II state constituencies in Delta State, and the Yagba West II constituency in Kogi State. These constituencies had been suppressed prior to the restoration, which now makes elections possible in those areas.
Restored Constituencies and Party Directives
The APC directed its Delta and Kogi state chapters to prepare for primary elections in the four restored constituencies. The party stated that primaries would be conducted in all four areas as part of its preparations for the elections that INEC's restoration decision now enables. The affected constituencies in Delta State are Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II, while Yagba West II is the restored constituency in Kogi State.
The party's directive signals a coordinated effort to fill these seats, which had been unavailable for election due to their previous suppression. The timetable for these primaries is part of the APC's broader electoral planning for the 2026 contests.
Legislative By-Elections Across Four States
Beyond the restored constituencies, the APC also issued notices to its chapters in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta, and Kano states for primary elections tied to upcoming legislative by-elections. The affected constituencies include the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, the Disina State Constituency and Sakwa State Constituency in Bauchi State, the Udu State Constituency in Delta State, and the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.
According to the APC, the timetable covers the conduct of primary elections for all listed constituencies, meaning eight separate constituencies across five states are now subject to the party's internal electoral process ahead of the 2026 contests. The party's decision to release a combined schedule indicates its intention to run coordinated primary exercises across all affected states within the same planning window.
This development follows INEC's restoration of the four state constituencies, which had been suppressed in Delta and Kogi states. The APC's action underscores its preparation for the upcoming elections, ensuring that candidates are selected for both the restored seats and the by-elections. The timetable provides a clear framework for the party's chapters to conduct primaries, with the goal of fielding candidates for the 2026 elections.
