The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has launched a verbal attack on Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, following reports that he lost his own polling unit during the recent Anambra State governorship election.
A Clear Rejection, Says APC
In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, November 9, 2025, the APC Lagos spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, described the outcome as a clear and public rejection of Mr. Obi and his political movement. Oladejo stated that the polling unit result represents the loudest confirmation that the Obidient movement is nothing but a "political hologram—bright on social media, empty in real life."
Humiliation in His Own Backyard
The APC chieftain framed the loss as a significant personal and political setback for Peter Obi. He emphasized that being defeated in one's own community amounts to a public humiliation. "The people who know Peter Obi best—his neighbours, his own community, his supposed natural base—have delivered an unmistakable judgment: 'We reject you. We don't trust you. We have seen through you,'" Oladejo declared.
He further ridiculed the former presidential candidate's national ambitions, stating, "A man who cannot win his polling unit has no business dreaming of winning a country." Oladejo added, "A man who is rejected on his street cannot claim nationwide acceptance."
Implications for the Obidient Movement
This incident, as highlighted by the APC, is being used to question the real-world political strength of the Obidient movement, which gained massive traction online during the 2023 general elections. The party's statement suggests that the movement's influence may not translate into tangible electoral victories on the ground, especially in the candidate's immediate political stronghold.
