Prince Laja Adeoye, the African People's Movement (APM) governorship candidate in Lagos State, has formally kicked off his electioneering activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election, vowing to "reset" the state. The Laja Adeoye Campaign Organisation (LACO) announced the launch on Wednesday through a statement signed by its spokesman, Ayodele Kazeem, marking the start of what it described as "the beginning of a new phase in our journey to offer Lagosians a credible, progressive and people-centred alternative."
Atunto Eko 1.0 Takes Shape Across All LGAs
LACO said the campaign, branded 'Atunto Eko 1.0', was launched in line with the timetable published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The organisation stated that the campaign would cover every local government and ward in the state, specifically naming Lagos Island, Epe, Alimosho, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Mainland, Agege and Ibeju-Lekki as key areas of focus.
The campaign's policy priorities include education, healthcare, housing, transportation, security, employment, infrastructure, flooding, waste management and support for vulnerable residents. LACO emphasised that its approach differs from conventional political campaigns, vowing not to engage in "empty promises, propaganda or the politics of personalities." Instead, the campaign will centre on "issues, policies, solutions and the future of Lagos."
Direct Engagement With Lagosians Planned
The organisation outlined plans to engage communities, professionals, artisans, traders, youths, women, traditional institutions, religious bodies and civil society groups across the state. "We will not speak at Lagosians; we will speak with Lagosians," the statement read, underscoring a commitment to grassroots dialogue.
LACO also called on its supporters and volunteers to maintain discipline throughout the campaign. "We will campaign vigorously, but we will do so peacefully and within the provisions of the law," it said, stressing the importance of lawful conduct during the election period.
Voters Deserve Policy-Based Judgement
The campaign organisation argued that voters deserve a platform where candidates are judged on their programmes and track records. "The people deserve to understand what each candidate stands for. They deserve to compare policies, programmes and track records," the statement said, appealing for an issue-driven electoral discourse.
LACO closed its statement with a rallying call: "Lagos deserves better. Lagos deserves Atunto. Lagos deserves leadership that puts the people first." The campaign now moves to implement its outreach strategy across all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in Lagos State, with the 2027 election set to determine the next governor.
