Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, the founder and head of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Oke Afa, Lagos, has issued a stern warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the escalating insecurity in Nigeria. The cleric cautioned that unless the security situation is addressed before August 2026, President Tinubu could face significant challenges in his bid for a second term in the 2027 elections.
Ayodele's Warning on Insecurity
In a statement released on Friday, May 29, through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, and obtained by Legit.ng, Primate Ayodele emphasized that insecurity remains a major national challenge. He warned that there are plans for more deadly attacks unless urgent action is taken. The cleric stated: "Tinubu needs to handle the issue of insecurity well; it needs serious deliberation, especially towards the election, so they won't truncate his government. If he doesn't listen, he will be the one to lose everything in the end."
Ayodele further urged the president to wake up and start planning to eliminate insecurity as soon as possible, as he foresees something serious coming. He warned that Nigerians could eventually unite in frustration against the government if the situation persists. The cleric gave a deadline of August 2026 for the president to drastically reduce the operations of bandits and terrorists, otherwise, "Nigerians will speak with one voice to kick him out of government."
Insecurity Worsening Economic Crisis
Primate Ayodele also highlighted that insecurity is exacerbating Nigeria's economic crisis. He called on the president to better utilize resources across states to boost economic growth. He noted that governors of Taraba, Zamfara, and Kogi have resources in their states that can help the nation, and the president should make use of them. The cleric expressed doubt that the finance minister understands the situation fully.
Political Implications and Reactions
The warning comes amid growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections. Some analysts believe that insecurity could be a decisive factor in the election outcome. In related news, Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, commented on the notion of a cabal in Tinubu's administration. Showunmi stated that Tinubu is a cabal on his own and handles everything himself, adding that even the chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, is not allowed to do his job effectively.
