The Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) Lawyers Group has officially endorsed the governorship ticket of Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and Hon. Damilola Sonayon-James for the 2027 Lagos State election. The group has called on legal practitioners and stakeholders to mobilise support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.
Endorsement Ceremony in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA
At an endorsement ceremony held under the auspices of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos, the National Convener of the group, Mrs. Abibat Bankole-Apena, described the gathering as a historic convergence of legal minds united by a shared belief in visionary leadership and continuity in governance. She stated that the event went beyond a routine political exercise, representing a collective affirmation of confidence in the APC ticket.
Hamzat's Track Record Praised
Bankole-Apena noted that Hamzat’s track record of innovation and dedication to public service had significantly contributed to the development of Lagos State. She added that his experience positions him to lead the state to greater heights. She called on legal practitioners across the state to remain active, disciplined, and committed to ensuring electoral success in 2027, while expressing optimism that the party would emerge victorious.
Grassroots Confidence Highlighted
Chairing the event, the Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, said the endorsement reflected growing grassroots confidence in the Hamzat–Sonayon-James ticket. She echoed Bankole-Apena’s position, describing Hamzat as a seasoned administrator whose contributions have been instrumental to the transformation of Lagos State. According to her, the endorsement symbolises a broader consensus among professionals who believe in the candidates’ capacity to sustain development and deliver effective governance.
Legal Community Support
Also speaking, Dr. Seun Akapo, who represented Sonayon-James, expressed appreciation to the BAT Lawyers Group for their support, describing the endorsement as a gathering of legal professionals committed to justice and good governance. He said the backing of the legal community underscored growing momentum among professional groups in support of the APC ticket. Akapo urged lawyers across Lagos to mobilise their colleagues and ensure maximum voter turnout for the party, stressing that the candidates would build on the foundation already laid in the state.
Call for Grassroots Mobilisation
In his remarks, the Deputy Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Hon. Yinka Ogunleye, called for intensified grassroots mobilisation and effective dissemination of accurate information ahead of the campaign season. He commended traditional leaders, organisers, and party faithful for their commitment, noting that their collective efforts demonstrated strong belief in the party’s vision. Ogunleye urged supporters to promote the administration’s achievements and counter what he described as misleading narratives by opposition elements. He highlighted economic gains and ongoing development initiatives as key messages for public engagement, stressing the need to equip supporters with verified facts. He further emphasised the importance of tackling misinformation, particularly on social media, ahead of the official campaign commencement in September, expressing confidence that sustained mobilisation would translate into electoral success and continued governance delivery in the state.
