In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ebonyi State has officially thrown his hat into the ring for a seat in the National Assembly.
A Declaration Rooted in Grassroots Service
Barrister Tochukwu Ogalegu, widely known as T-Man, declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency. He made this announcement during an interactive session with journalists at his country home in Amike Izhia, Ohaukwu Local Government Area. The event was part of the festivities marking the 2025 Christmas and the upcoming 2026 New Year.
Ogalegu, described as a philanthropist and grassroots mobilizer, stated that his decision stems from years of direct engagement with communities, consistent service, and accumulated leadership experience. He emphasized that his central ambition is to attract meaningful federal projects and foster sustainable development within his constituency.
Politics of Service, Not Settlement
The APC chieftain outlined his political philosophy, stressing that governance should be driven by service, demonstrable competence, and measurable impact rather than personal gain. "Politics is not a settlement arrangement," Ogalegu asserted. "It is about capacity, sacrifice and results. You must earn the trust of the people through what you have done and what you are prepared to do for them."
He identified peace and security as the bedrock of any meaningful progress, commending the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru for restoring stability across Ebonyi State. Ogalegu pointed to the massive return of indigenes for the Christmas celebrations as clear evidence that peace has returned. "This is the first time in many years that our people are coming home in large numbers for Christmas. That alone shows that peace has been restored," he noted.
Grassroots Mobilization and Readiness for 2027
Assessing the state government's performance, Ogalegu rated Governor Nwifuru's administration at 70 per cent, describing it as commendable and expressing optimism for more achievements before the end of the tenure.
On political mobilization, Ogalegu, who is the Patron of the Francis Frontiers Movement in Ohaukwu LGA, highlighted the group's role in supporting the governor and deepening voter participation. He disclosed a remarkable increase in voter registration in his polling unit, from just 38 to 767 registered voters, achieved through sustained sensitization. The movement has also supported registration drives in other communities by providing logistics, including a branded Sienna vehicle and financial incentives to coordinators.
Beyond politics, Ogalegu highlighted the impact of his Zelunjo Empowerment Foundation, which has empowered thousands through:
- Education sponsorships
- Employment support
- Healthcare interventions
- Borehole projects
- Housing assistance for widows
Declaring his readiness for the 2027 contest, Ogalegu expressed confidence in his grassroots acceptance. He assured constituents that he would leverage his legal background, leadership exposure, and community experience to represent them effectively in Abuja.
He concluded with a strong call to action, urging all eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). "Your PVC is your power," he stated. "Treat it as important as your school fees, hospital bills or ATM card. The will of the people will always prevail."
