Edo Governor Vows to Secure 2.5 Million Votes for Tinubu in 2027

In a bold political declaration, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has pledged to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general election. This announcement was made during a reception for decampees from major opposition parties in Edo State, including the Africa Democratic Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, and Labour Party, who have recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Attributes Support to Visible Development

Governor Okpebholo attributed the surge in APC support to what he described as "visible and practical development across the state." He emphasized that the electorate's confidence is rooted in tangible results rather than mere political rhetoric. "2027 and 2.5 million votes are sure for Tinubu," Okpebholo told the crowd, adding that the president should feel assured enough to visit Edo to commission projects rather than campaign.

He highlighted the role of federal backing in driving progress, stating, "All we do in Edo State is practical governance and the people can see development. Every kobo spent in Edo State is from President Tinubu." This statement underscores the governor's alignment with the federal administration and its policies.

Invitation to Media for Project Validation

In a move to substantiate his claims of development, Governor Okpebholo extended an invitation to prominent media personalities Rufai Oseni and Reuben Abati of Arise Television. He proposed a tour of state projects, asserting that witnessing the achievements firsthand would convince them to support Tinubu in 2027. "I invite Rufai and Abati to Edo State and I will take them on a project tour. By the time I take them round for a few days inspecting projects, you will not only campaign but vote for President Tinubu," he said.

Reaffirmation of APC Unity and Loyalty

The governor reaffirmed the state administration's loyalty to the APC and the presidency, stressing that political stability in Edo is ensured through party unity and sustained development efforts. "I thank members of the APC for the unity we are enjoying in the party. We have a good father in President Tinubu and we are all proud of him, ready to deliver Edo for APC come 2027," Okpebholo stated.

He also noted the APC's strong position nationally, with 31 governors under the party, and anticipated further political realignments ahead of the election. Since taking office, Governor Okpebholo has consistently welcomed new members into the APC and reinforced Edo State's commitment to the ruling party's 2027 campaign.

Broader Context of APC Support

This pledge comes amid broader endorsements for Tinubu's re-election, including from the APC diaspora chapter in France, which recently declared support for Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima after reviewing the administration's handling of economic challenges. Such developments highlight the ongoing consolidation of support within and outside Nigeria as the 2027 election approaches.
