Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has dismissed allegations of voter harassment, intimidation, and vote-buying during the ongoing governorship election in the state. The incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate cast his vote at Polling Unit 003, Okelele, Ikogosi-Ekiti, in Ekiti West Local Government Area.
Allegations by ADC Candidate
The allegations were raised by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide, who claimed that APC members were distributing money to voters at a polling unit. Oyebanji, in response, demanded evidence to support such claims.
Governor's Response
Speaking with journalists after casting his ballot, Governor Oyebanji said anyone making such allegations must provide evidence to back their assertions. He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election and urged eligible voters who had not yet cast their ballots to come out and fulfill their civic responsibility.
The election, which is being closely watched, has seen tensions rise as candidates make various claims. Oyebanji's dismissal of the allegations is expected to calm some nerves, but the ADC candidate has yet to provide concrete evidence.
