The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dare Bejide, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of using thugs and cash to intimidate and influence voters in Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti South West Local Council Area.
Bejide raised the alarm, stating that one of his aides is currently hospitalized following a clash. The incident occurred at Polling Unit 4, Ward 2, during a physical altercation between supporters of both parties.
The ADC candidate claimed that thugs were mobilized to intimidate his supporters and other eligible voters, undermining the credibility of the election. According to Bejide, the situation turned violent when his party's supporters intercepted individuals attempting to share cash in a sack.
“My driver was attacked and injured. He is presently undergoing treatment in the hospital. This is unfortunate and unacceptable in a democratic setting. One of them brought money here; they brought it in a sack, but we intercepted her. She called the council chairman, and the council chairman came here also,” he stated.
Bejide urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security personnel to investigate the allegations and remain vigilant to prevent acts capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the election.
Despite the incident, Bejide commended INEC officials for their professionalism and appealed to his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while participating in the electoral process.
