Ekiti PDP Candidate Declares Governor Oyebanji Unfit for Second Term
Dr Wole Oluyede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Ekiti State gubernatorial election, has strongly asserted that Governor Biodun Oyebanji has no business returning as governor for a second term, citing poor performance during his first term in office. Oluyede made these remarks during a homecoming event organized by the PDP at his country home in Ikere-Ekiti, where he was officially received as the party's candidate.
Criticism of Incumbent Governor's Record
Oluyede argued that Ekiti State has not seen any significant improvement since Governor Oyebanji assumed office, stating there is no justification for him to repeat in "a class he has failed." He emphasized that the governor's tenure has been marked by underperformance, which he believes disqualifies Oyebanji from seeking re-election in the upcoming 2026 polls.
PDP Leadership Backs Oluyede's Candidacy
In support of Oluyede's stance, Tunji Odeyemi, the Chairman of the Ekiti State PDP, declared that Oluyede is not only the party's candidate but also the next governor of the state. This endorsement underscores the party's confidence in his ability to challenge the incumbent and bring about change in Ekiti.
APC Dismisses Oluyede as a Stranger
Reacting to the allegations, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State dismissed Oluyede's criticisms, describing him as lacking proper knowledge of the state because he is a stranger. Segun Dipe, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, told The Guardian that Oluyede cannot be taken seriously due to his unfamiliarity with Ekiti State's terrain and issues.
INEC Commences Voter Registration Training in Osun
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started a two-day training program for registration officials across all 30 local councils in Osun State. This initiative, which began on April 1, 2026, is part of preparations to devolve the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to the Registration Area level, aiming to enhance voter accessibility and participation ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Digital Campaign Infrastructure Lacking Among Candidates
As preparations intensify for the Osun State election, a review of candidates' digital campaign infrastructure reveals that most do not maintain dedicated campaign websites. This lack of online presence limits voters' ability to access detailed information about candidates' agendas, potentially affecting informed decision-making in the electoral process.
