AnambraDecides2025: INEC Has Not Declared Soludo Winner - Fact Check
False Claim: INEC Hasn't Declared Anambra Election Winner

Social media reports claiming that Governor Charles Soludo has been declared winner of the ongoing Anambra State governorship election have been confirmed to be false and misleading.

False Victory Claims Circulate on Social Media

An X user operating under the handle @Esteembehemoth sparked confusion on Saturday, November 8, 2025, by announcing that Governor Charles Soludo had secured what they described as the easiest term renewal in Nigeria's election history. The user claimed the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate had won a second term in office.

The viral post read: Congratulations to Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo @CCSoludo on winning a second term in office as governor of Anambra State. This was just too easy. Arguably the easiest term renewal (re-election bid) in Nigeria's election history.

INEC Still Conducting Election Process

Contrary to the social media declaration, voting was still actively ongoing across Anambra State's 21 local government areas at the time the claim was made. Eligible voters were still casting their ballots at various polling units in the off-cycle election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is the only constitutionally empowered body to announce election winners in Nigeria, has not made any official declaration regarding the outcome of the Anambra governorship race.

Competitive Race with Multiple Candidates

Governor Charles Soludo faces significant competition in his re-election bid, with fifteen other governorship candidates contesting against him. Among his main opponents is Nicholas Ukachukwu, making the election far from the easy victory claimed on social media.

Prior to election day, political analyst Donald Okwuosa had predicted a competitive outcome, while Legit.ng conducted a social media poll where Nigerians shared their predictions about which candidate might emerge victorious.

The campaigns, rallies, and market storms that characterized the pre-election period have now concluded, with residents of the southeastern state determining who will lead them for the next four years.

INEC continues to collate results from the Saturday, November 8, 2025 election, and the commission remains the only authoritative source for official election outcomes.
