Ghana Releases 2026 Visa-Free List for 24 African Countries

The Ghana Immigration Service has published the official list of African countries whose citizens can travel to Ghana without obtaining a visa in 2026, covering 24 nations across West, Southern, and Eastern Africa. The list includes all 14 member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and ten additional countries from Southern and Eastern Africa, plus Mauritius.

ECOWAS Countries Granted Unrestricted Visa-Free Access

Citizens of all 14 ECOWAS member states are allowed to enter Ghana without a visa, with no additional conditions attached. The eligible countries are: Nigeria, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Togo, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Liberia, Benin, and Cape Verde.

Southern and Eastern African Countries Eligible for 60-Day Stays

Beyond the ECOWAS bloc, citizens from nine Southern and Eastern African countries, as well as Mauritius, are permitted to enter Ghana without a visa for stays of up to 60 days. The eligible countries are: Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Swaziland (Eswatini), Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Mauritius.

The Ghana Immigration Service notes that the visa-free arrangement applies to all types of passports from these countries, meaning holders of diplomatic, official, and ordinary passports are all covered under the same provisions.

Requirements for Non-Visa-Free Nationals

Travellers from countries not on the visa-free list are required to obtain the appropriate visa before arriving in Ghana. Full details on visa categories and application requirements are available on the Ghana Immigration Service official website.

In a related development, Ghana had previously lifted its visa requirement for many African nations, reflecting a broader trend toward increased intra-African travel.

Ghanaian Passport Mobility

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian passport maintains a respectable level of global mobility, granting its holders access to numerous destinations completely visa-free. These open-border arrangements provide opportunities for holidaymakers, business professionals, and adventurers to explore the world without the stress of prior immigration approval.
