Group Urges APC to Bring Back Amosun for Ogun Central Development Revival
A collective appeal has been made to the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership and stakeholders in Ogun State to restore the developmental momentum of Ogun Central Senatorial District, with a particular focus on Abeokuta, the historic capital of the gateway state.
Call for Senator Amosun's Return
The group, ECONID (Egba Collective, Nigeria), issued a statement on Friday, signed by its General Secretary, Dr. Hassan Ishola, urging the return of Senator Ibikunle Amosun to the National Assembly in 2027 under the APC platform. This move is aimed at addressing the infrastructural deficit in the zone, which has seen a slowdown in progress since his departure from office.
Amosun's Legacy of Development
Dr. Ishola highlighted that before Senator Amosun's administration, Abeokuta faced significant infrastructural challenges that hindered its growth as a modern capital. He noted that Amosun's tenure as Governor and later as Senator for Ogun Central marked a turning point, bringing widespread infrastructural development, urban renewal, and economic stimulation that transformed the district.
"These strides earned widespread recognition among the Egba people, the Yoruba nation, and Nigerians at large, including those in the diaspora," Ishola said. "However, since his exit from both executive and legislative offices, there has been growing concern among constituents over the apparent slowdown in development and the perceived reversal of earlier gains in Ogun Central."
Ongoing Commitment and Key Projects
Despite not holding elective office, Senator Amosun has continued to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the district's advancement. His efforts include:
- Facilitating the establishment of a Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences.
- Developing the Ake ultra-modern arcade.
- Strong support for cultural initiatives like Lisabi Day and Egbaliganza, which have sustained Egbaland's visibility and cultural relevance on national and global stages.
Strategic Imperative for Progress
ECONID argues that based on his wealth of experience, proven leadership capacity, and deep-rooted connection to the people, Senator Amosun is uniquely positioned to rekindle development in the zone. The group calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC leadership at state and national levels to consider this appeal for sustainable development and equitable representation in Ogun Central.
"Senator Ibikunle Amosun's legacy in public service remains significant, and his return to the Senate represents not just a political choice, but a strategic imperative for the continued progress of Egbaland and Ogun State at large," the statement concluded.
