Panic reportedly gripped residents of Ondo State when suspected thugs stormed the venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary in Akure, the state capital, and fired gunshots into the air. The incident occurred at Ward 5 on Oke-Lisa/Amudipe Street in Akure South Local Government Area, where delegates had gathered to cast their votes in the APC primary elections ahead of the 2027 general election.
Witnesses Describe Chaos and Fear
According to Channels TV, witnesses reported that the sound of gunfire caused widespread fear, with the noise spreading across the state capital. Many residents initially thought it was an armed robbery attack. Party faithful who had lined up to vote fled the venue in confusion, seeking safety.
The disruption has raised concerns about the security arrangements for the primary elections in the state. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
