INEC Uploads 94% of Anambra Election Results

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has demonstrated significant technological progress in Nigeria's electoral process by uploading the majority of results from the Anambra State governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, to its dedicated viewing platform.

Real-Time Results Transparency

As of 6:38 PM on election day, INEC's Result Viewing Portal (IReV) displayed results from 5,433 out of 5,720 polling units across Anambra State. This represents an impressive 94% upload rate, giving voters, candidates, and observers unprecedented access to real-time election data.

The election, which commenced at 8 AM across all 21 local government areas of the southeastern state, was largely peaceful according to initial reports. However, multiple sources including candidates and accredited observers reported incidents of vote-buying and noted concerns about low voter turnout.

Candidates and Electoral Context

Sixteen candidates contested in the election, with 2,802,790 registered voters expected to participate. Prominent contenders included incumbent Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), George Moghalu of the Labour Party, and Jude Ezenwafor representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dimma Nwobi, an observer with the Situation Room, independently confirmed instances of vote-buying during the electoral process, echoing allegations made by several candidates.

Early Results from Key Polling Units

In early results from specific polling units, Labour Party's George Moghalu suffered a setback in his own electoral territory. At Uruagu Ward 1 in Nnewi North Local Government Area, presiding officer Okonkwo Ebere announced that Moghalu secured only 22 votes at his polling unit.

The unit was decisively won by APGA's Governor Soludo, who polled 57 votes, while APC candidate Nicholas Ukachukwu managed just 5 votes at the same location.

The rapid upload of results to the IReV portal, achieved within four hours of voting concluding, marks a significant improvement in electoral transparency under the leadership of INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, who had repeatedly assured Nigerians of the commission's preparedness for the Anambra gubernatorial election.
