Gboyega Isiaka, the lawmaker representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has firmly denied widespread speculations that Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, is sponsoring his governorship ambition for the 2027 elections in the state. Known affectionately as GNI among his political supporters, Isiaka emphasized that his decision to contest for the state's top position for the fourth time stems solely from his personal aspiration to lead Ogun State, not from any external pressure or influence from the incumbent governor or other political figures.
Media Briefing in Abeokuta
During a media briefing held yesterday in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Isiaka articulated his stance, asserting that he remains the most qualified candidate to assume the governorship role in the upcoming 2027 elections. He categorically dismissed rumors suggesting that state leaders have already predetermined who will occupy the governorship seat, stressing that such notions are unfounded and do not reflect the democratic process.
National Workshop on Budget Alignment
In a related development, Isiaka, who serves as Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, announced that the House of Representatives is preparing to organize a national workshop. This initiative aims to align the federal budgeting process with Nigeria's National Planning and Economic Development blueprint. Speaking against the backdrop of both the country's budgeting system and the 2027 governorship race in Ogun State, he highlighted the critical need for the nation's budget to "perfectly align" with national planning objectives to drive sustainable development.
Isiaka explained that the upcoming workshop is specifically designed to address existing imperfections in the budgeting system, ensuring it better supports economic growth and stability. He attributed the current upward trajectory of the economy and increasing investor confidence to the bold reforms implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscoring the importance of maintaining this positive momentum to accelerate economic progress.
