Jandor Denies APC Has Preferred Candidate for 2027 Lagos Governorship Race

Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, a prominent aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Lagos State, has firmly refuted claims that the party has a preferred or anointed candidate ahead of the 2027 election. In a statement released on Saturday, Jandor emphasized that the APC will conduct a credible primary to select its nominee, dismissing ongoing speculations about any pre-determined choice.

Statement from Jandor's Spokesperson

The statement, signed by Gbenga Ogunleye, Jandor's spokesperson, addressed the rumors head-on. "We note the ongoing speculations alleging that a preferred aspirant has been anointed for our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship election," the statement read. It further clarified, "We restate, in line with the official position of the Lagos State APC leadership as communicated by the State Chairman, that no aspirant has been anointed and that all aspirants will participate in a credible primary election."

Jandor's Commitment to Party Process

Ogunleye highlighted that Jandor is fully committed to this democratic process and is actively preparing for the primary. This includes engaging with party members and strengthening grassroots structures to build support. At the same time, Jandor remains guided by party discipline and is willing to align with any consensus decision made by the party's leadership, should they opt for that approach instead of a primary.

"This is a position anchored on his readiness to compete, and a willingness to submit to the collective will of the party," Ogunleye explained. He added that Jandor urges APC members not to misinterpret individual campaigns or political group endorsements as the official party position or that of the party leader.

Clarification on Party Leadership

In the statement, Jandor was quoted as saying, "When the party and our leader speak, I am sure no one will do otherwise." This underscores his respect for the APC's internal decision-making processes and his focus on unity within the party as the 2027 election approaches.

The refutation comes amid heightened political activity in Lagos State, with multiple aspirants jostling for the APC ticket. Jandor's clarification aims to dispel misinformation and reinforce the party's commitment to a transparent selection process, which could impact voter confidence and party cohesion in the lead-up to the election.
