Stakeholders from the Kano North Senatorial District have issued a strong statement rejecting what they describe as increasing external interference in the zone's political matters. In a press release, they simultaneously reaffirmed their unwavering support for the leadership of Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
Concerns Over Non-Indigene Involvement
The statement, signed by Aliyu Abbas Gumawa Gabasawa, Chairman of the Kano North Political Stakeholders Forum, expressed deep concern over recent political developments. The group highlighted the involvement of individuals they claim are not integrated into the constituency's established political framework.
According to the stakeholders, there have been attempts by non-indigenes of the constituency to impose or promote candidates without respecting the will of the local people. They warned that such actions could seriously undermine the democratic integrity and cohesion of Kano North.
Disconnect from Grassroots Realities
The forum pointed out that recent political gatherings related to the senatorial race were largely attended by individuals from outside the immediate constituency. This situation, they argued, reflects a significant disconnect from grassroots sentiments and local political realities.
They described this trend as troubling, noting that if not addressed promptly by relevant stakeholders, it could destabilize the unity and harmony of the district. The stakeholders emphasized that Kano North voters remain committed to independently determining their political future based on credibility and proven performance.
Reaffirmation of Support for Senator Barau Jibrin
In their statement, the stakeholders took the opportunity to reaffirm their confidence in Senator Barau Jibrin. They described him as a tested, trusted, and result-oriented representative whose leadership continues to garner widespread support across the district.
