The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to publicly reject a reported presidential nomination offered to him by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Keyamo made this appeal following an announcement by a PDP faction led by Tanimu Turaki, which named Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election. This development comes weeks after another PDP faction, aligned with supporters of Nyesom Wike, unveiled Sandy Onor as its presidential candidate.
Keyamo Questions Legitimacy of Nomination
Reacting in a post on X, Keyamo questioned the legitimacy of the nomination, arguing that the group behind it is not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He described the situation as a bizarre comedy taken too far by supposed adults, including some former officials. Keyamo criticized the move, stating that dragging a former president into such a charade is a journey to nowhere.
Call to Protect Reputation
Keyamo urged Jonathan to immediately distance himself from the nomination to protect his reputation and international standing. He emphasized that Jonathan must issue a strong refusal statement to avoid reviving the clueless label from his 2015 campaign. Jonathan has yet to publicly respond to the nomination by the Turaki-led PDP faction.
